Which motorcycle should a beginner buy?+
Look for a light (under ~190 kg), A2-friendly bike with forgiving, predictable power, think 300-500cc twins like the Honda CB500X, Kawasaki Ninja 500 or Yamaha MT-03. The finder above ranks every bike by how well it fits your experience, budget and size.
What can I ride on an A2 licence?+
An A2 licence allows motorcycles up to 35 kW (about 47 hp), including bikes restricted down to that limit. From age 18 you can take the A2; after two years you can upgrade to the unrestricted A licence.
Can a 16-year-old ride a motorcycle?+
At 16-17 you ride on an A1 licence: 125cc and up to about 15 hp (11 kW). That is why the finder will not push a 30-year-old toward a 125, it matches a bike’s size and power to your age and licence.
Is a 125cc enough for an adult?+
For most adult riders, no, a 125 is happiest in town and struggles on faster roads. Unless you are A1-restricted or want the cheapest possible commuter, a 300-650cc bike is a better fit, which is why age weighs on our recommendations.
How much does a first motorcycle cost?+
A good new beginner bike typically runs €6,000-8,000 in the Netherlands; used examples cost less. Set your budget in the finder and it ranks bikes within reach, flagging anything that is over.
