Mastering Slow-Speed Control
Clutch, throttle, and rear brake: the three controls that make low-speed manoeuvres feel effortless instead of terrifying.

The three controls
Smooth slow-speed riding comes from balancing three inputs:
- Throttle: hold steady, slightly raised revs.
- Clutch: feather it in the friction zone to control drive.
- Rear brake: light, trailing pressure to stabilise the bike.
The technique
Keep your eyes up and looking where you want to go, never at the ground in front of the wheel. Use the rear brake to settle the bike rather than chopping the throttle. Practise figure-eights and tight U-turns in an empty car park; it transforms your confidence in traffic and car parks alike.
